Megan Jones
As an artist, I see myself as painting my ideas about life, particularly the nature of human nature and its effects in the world. My background in education, clinical psychology and management means I have spent much time reflecting on relationships between individuals and the world, and on the meaning and purpose of life. My work generally expresses moments of understanding about issues of existence. It is conceptually based, although it is realistic in form. The reality expressed by my paintings is thus symbolic or metaphorical rather than literal. In addition, an interest in the craft of painting itself leads me to continually seek technical improvement in my work.
Since completing a Master in Studio Art at Sydney College of the Arts (2004) I have participated in numerous group exhibitions and have had 14 solo exhibitions. I have exhibited in Art Fairs in Korea and China and had international arts residencies in Iceland, Germany and Greenland. I continue to explore my psychological, social and philosophical concerns, and the results are subsequently reflected in my work, which for me is a form of communication.
